Academic Teaching and Learning Assessment Support (ATLAS)

The Center of Inquiry is committed to helping colleges and universities use evidence to improve student learning. Charles Blaich and Kathy Wise work with faculty and staff to help them develop, revise, and upgrade assessment programs in order to develop faculty skills and improve student learning.

In the last five years, Charlie and Kathy have:

Worked with faculty and staff to make sense of and use survey data.

Created assessment processes that are built into, rather than tacked onto, new curricula and programs.

Served as outside evaluators for programs, curricula, and grants.

Helped faculty create and implement mechanisms for revising general education.

Hosted assessment workshops to help faculty and staff create and revise program and departmental assessment processes.

Our goal is to help institutions assess student learning in a way that’s useful, engaging, and sustainable.

Our fees depend on what you’d like us to do. Examples of fees from our recent work include:

  • Site visit to review an institutional assessment program – $2,500 plus expenses
  • Site visit to consult with individual departments on assessment and give a keynote at a campus retreat – $2,500 plus expenses
  • External evaluator for NSF grants – range from $2,000 to $10,000 a year plus expenses
  • External reviewer for multi-institution grants –  $6,000 a year plus expenses

And, of course, we’re glad to chat by phone or email at no cost on questions you have about assessment and how assessment connects with revising programs and curricula, faculty development, accreditation, or anything else that would be helpful.

We offer HEDS institutions a 20% discount on fees.

Please contact Charlie Blaich and Kathy Wise if you would like more information.
